January – Nordland Polar Bear Dip

Polar-Bear-Dip

Kick off the new year (and your cardiovascular system) in style!

Each January 1 at noon, residents and visitors gather on the dock in front of the Nordland General Store for the Polar Bear Dip, organized by store owner Tom Rose.

Although ice on the water is a rarity, the water temperature and the air temperature are usually right around 40 degrees for the annual event. The Nordland General Store sells commemorative shirts and hats for the occasion, and warm beverages are close at hand.

The Store has been sponsoring the Polar Bear Dip since the mid1990s, and it is a community event the entire area looks forward to.
